1-Circuit 1: Laguna
Diamante
High mountain circuit, mostly in compacted dirt road
curves on the highest part (reaching up to 3800 metres,
soon after, lowering to 3300 metres, height of the lake).
To make this circuit, it is advisable to check the
status of the Provincial Route 98, in Eugenio Bustos or
Pareditas. It is desirable to use high vehicles.
This tour of two hundred seventy kilometres takes up a
day. It is operable from December to March.
Starting from the city of San Carlos, going south
through Route 40, with asphalt until Pareditas, the way
continues on the old Route 40 (compacted dirt) up to the
Provincial Route 98, which turns towards the west and
starts to go up in curves, and then down to the Laguna
del Diamante. There you will have a shocking spectacle
duo to the impressive Maipo volcano and other hills
surrounding the lake. This is very popular among anglers
because of the abundance of rainbow trout. In addition,
the drainage of the lake is the riverhead of Diamante
River, whose first section has green areas alternating
with pools of crystal clear water, very suitable for
picnic. Fishing and hiking. The return is done through
the same way.
- Circuit 2: Manzano Histórico and Marshlands
Mountain circuit through asphalt road until the Manzano
Histórico.
This one hundred thirty-kilometre tour starts in Tunuyán
and takes up all day. It is operable throughout the year.
Starting from the city of Tunuyán it goes westwards by
Provincial Route 94 and 92, travelling forty kilometres
through a beautiful asphalt road, dotted by poplar tree
plantations, vineyards and fruit orchards, reaches the
tourist Village Manzano Histórico, where there is the
National Historical Monument "Renunciamiento Histórico."
In this famous place, General San Martin rested on his
return from Peru, there still retains an offshoot of
apple tree that gave shade to the Liberator. There are
two campgrounds, restaurants, a salmonid fish station
and some other facilities. Five kilometres further,
going through a dirt road, there is a three-star hotel,
which offers hiking and horseback riding, to enter
twenty kilometres into the Marshlands Valley. The return
is by the same way.
- Circuit 3: Cordón del Plata
It can be done starting from Tunuyán or Tupungato. It is
an integration circuit with the department of Lujan de
Cuyo, since it can also be accessed through Alto
Potrerillos.
This journey requires a day. It is operable all year
long.
It starts at the town of Tupungato and goes northeast by
the Provincial Route 86, paved up to San Jose, then
compacted dirt, and connecting with the Provincial Route
89. The tourists can see a beautiful combination of
fields planted with alfalfa, barley and potato, in
addition to the imposing presence of the Cordón del
Plata, with its snow and glaciers, and the view eastward
of the cerrillada and then the plain. Several farms and
livestock stays characterize the journey. These are
traditional in the area and the visit is nice, prior
permission may be required in some of them. After that,
you can go to a place called El Mirador, which is the
highest point in the journey, with the possibility of
visiting the hot springs of the ares, old oil wells, and then
return to the path leading to the tourist colony Las
Vegas, already in the department of Lujan de Cuyo.
