MENDOZA
ALL YEAR LONG
Mendoza spreads across a vast territory of 148,827 square
kilometres located in the centre-west of Argentina and at the edge
of the Andes, the highest mountains in the Americas.
The province can be reached by air or by land through the two main
axes crossing Mendoza, which are the Routes 40 and 143 from north to
south and Route 7 or Bio-oceanic Corridor, which crosses the country
from east to west, and connects Buenos Aires to Santiago de Chile.
Along with the neighbouring provinces of San Juan, San Luis and La
Rioja, Mendoza forms the Cuyo Region.
The climate is pleasant, mild and with very few rainfalls. The sun
has a pact with this land, and makes the clear skies an aggregated
value of Mendoza as a tourist destination.
These weather conditions, coupled with the existence of Thaw Rivers
and the work of man, have transformed the desert soil, in a rural
and urban oasis where it is nice to live and to visit.
The Mendocinean cities present a great number of trees, with many
green areas; they have groves, the acéquias and clean public spaces,
and their distinctive elements.
The Mendoza Capital, founded in 1561, has all the facilities like
the big cities in the world, an extensive commercial and
recreational offer, and offers a great range of accommodation in
hotels of 1 to 5 stars, flats, hostels, campsites and cabins, what
can be found throughout the province as well. In recreation, Mendoza
has it all: casinos, nightclubs, theatres, museums, cinemas, wine
bar, pubs, a rich cultural and artistic activity, varied options of
international cuisine and specialties regional.
In addition, both the cities and the high mountain centres have
specific and complementary equipment for congresses and fairs, where
it is possible to combine work with pleasure.
The rural areas smell of vegetables, apples, cherries, peaches and
especially grapes. Mendoza is the South American leading wine center,
and as such, produces and exports wine to many countries, primarily
its flagship variety, the Malbec. Through the excursions "Wine Roads"
and "Agro-alimentary Routes", you can enjoy this combination between
tourism and the products of our land.
The viniculture brings the National Festival of the Harvest, which
takes place annually at the first Saturday of March, and consists of
an allegorical show with different choreographies framed by a large
technological show of light and music.
The Cerro Aconcagua, the summit of the Americas with its 6,962
metres leads throughout the province, where the geography full of
mountains, eternal snow, valleys, rivers, hot springs, plains,
deserts and magical oases, offers opportunities to enjoy Mendoza
during the 365 days of the year.
National Festival of the Harvest
This is the biggest popular festivity in Mendoza. In these days,
everything vibrates and is decorated. The crowning of a year of hard
work in the vineyard is done at the Central Act at the first
Saturday of March night at the Greek Theatre Frank Romero Day.
On the Friday evening prior to the Central Act a parade called Via
Blanca de las Reinas is done. There floats from each department, and
on Saturday morning, there is the Carrousel of the Queens, where,
accompanying the same floats of the night before, there are coaches
and carts of the colonial era, vintage cars, gauchos on horseback,
invited foreign fellows, groups of actors and musicians.
