This museum has four halls. It has a collection of birds and mammals
embalmed by the taxidermist José Lorca who learned his trade from an
English traveller who visited Mendoza.
There are halls for Mineralogy, Archeology and Zoology. It belongs
to the ‘Liceo Agrícola y Enológico de la Universidad Nacional de
Cuyo’ (Agriculture and Enology High School from the National
University of Cuyo). The collection also has species with
malformations. In the area of Mineralogy, different materials have
been collected and allow us to see geological evolution. There is also an area for different kinds of vegetables.
THE PAST IN
CUYO MUSEUM

The house belonged to former governor Francisco Civit, who lived
there until 1.873. In 1.961, it was donated to the Historic Studies
Board. The museum houses a fine collection of weapons from the
independence time, furniture from the colonial time and several
elements that show what life in Mendoza was like in the XIX century.
It was declared a National Historic Monument in 1.971. At the
museum, there is also the biggest library specialized in the history
of Mendoza, and a complete newspaper library with papers from the
Press edited in 1.820 in Mendoza.
SAN MARTIN HISTORIC MUSEUM

The museums houses a fine collection of memories of General José de
San Martin as well as his military work, his private life, his army
and his liberating campaigns. In the same building, there is also a
public library that has the name of the ‘The Hero of our Nation’.
Located in the ‘Alameda’ in the historic site that belonged to San
Martin. Documents and objects that belonged to the General and his
wife are kept there. There are also weapons and uniforms that the
Liberating Army used, from the ‘Campaña del desierto’ (the Desert
Campaign) and the Malvinas (Falkland Islands) war. It is also
important to mention the Public Library San Martin, created in
1.822, and whose foundation was related to ‘The Hero of our Nation’,
who donated 700 books.
STREET POPULAR MUSEUM
Address: Las Heras Av. between 25 de Mayo and Perú St. Mendoza City.
It is an open air museum that through dioramas (made by the artists )
Rodolfo Gutiérrez and Eduardo González) and glass cabinets, the
history of Las Heras Av. is depicted, from colonial times, with its
palm trees boulevard, the hotels, the immigrants accommodations, the
central market, the centenary cinema, the inauguration of the
railroad and the horse-drawn streetcar, among others..
