WINE TOUR
GUIDE:
Introduction:
Mendoza is known as the land of good sun and good wine; it is
distinguished by its wine and culture.
The
history of the vine in this region includes nearly 500 years;
its beginning can be traced back to the time of the
foundation of the city.
Since then, the wine industry has developed in constantly
changing political, social, economic and cultural scenarios.
Shaping what is currently called the "Culture of Wine."
The
terroir of Mendoza provides excellent conditions for
grape growing.
A suitable atmosphere and the knowledge of several generations were
favourable to achieving competitive wines vis-a-vis ones from
the
Old World.
The vineyards and the wineries, in their development, have been changing the land and the use of space, creating new population centres, appraising new lands which was the origin to what today is the Great Mendoza; There is always a constant effort going on to contain and distribute the water through the desert areas.
Following the global trends and worldwide development in the
wine sector,
Argentina
has set, for a few years, the continuity of this process at the
Southern boarder of Latin America.
The
success of the wine
was reborn with force in the country, by the confluence of two
forces: a growing demand and a change in the strategy of the
pioneers in the activity.
Mendoza, in its
five oases,
has developed the most important wine centre in Latin America,
with 70 percent of the cultivated area of vineyards in the
country. It is a genuine merit to be distinguished as one of the world
capitals of wine.
At present, the phenomenon of tourism and wine called
"The Wine
Roads" means more than just a visit to the winery and
participate in the Great
Harvest Festival. It involves the
discovery of a culture hidden behind the shades of wine purple
going back to past times and ancestral lands.
