Bodega Atilio Avena is a typical family business where each of the links in the process is the active involvement of family members, starting with agricultural activities and development up to the marketing of wines in the domestic and foreign markets. The origins of it date back to 1930 when Don Atilio Avena son of Piedmontese immigrants (traditional wine region of northern Italy) , inherited the passion and the knowledge that her parents trasmitieron for growing grapes . Working manually and artisan vineyards and taking care of each plant as if it were the only one. With the arrival of their children, in the mid- 50s, studies and impetus they provided, allowed the incorporation of agricultural machinery to modernize rural tasks and thus sell their grapes to other wineries. At the beginning of the 70 cellar of a traditional firm Mendoza is acquired, initiating the step of winemaking, marketing them in bulk to other wineries frontline. With the third generation, the winery takes a new direction, starting to produce varietal wines with their own name ‘ Atilio Avena ‘ as a form of homage to the founder nonagenarian. Certainly the quality and recognition of the wines produced were paving the way for them to acquire their own identity, allowing to quickly obtain a prominent place among the extensive and excellent range of existing high-end wines.
